Mount Morris Dam
Thursday June 4th, 2026
Join us for a tour of the Mount Morris Dam. This popular ranger-guided walking tour lasts approximately 1 hour and includes a steep 1-mile trek into the Genesee River Gorge to the top of the Mount Morris Dam. From the top of the dam, there are great photo opportunities and amazing views of the gorge from a unique perspective.
After a short informational talk, the group will take an elevator down 200 feet into the dam and then walk through a tunnelway (5’ wide x 7’ high) to explore the structure. At the end of the tour, the group will return to the top of the dam by elevator and walk back up a steep pathway to the Visitor Center where they may explore informational exhibits to learn more.
Be prepared for the weather; about half of the walking tour takes place outdoors. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, the 1-mile round trip is on a sloped roadway, which descends/ascends 100 feet in elevation ‘down to’ and ‘up from’ the top of the dam on a 10% grade. The temperature inside the dam will be between 40°F and 50°F year round
Photos are permitted outside, but they are not permitted inside the dam.
Bus transportation will be provided for this tour from RIT to the dam and back. Exact pick up/drop off location to follow. Be advised that there will be a 40-minute ride each way.

Mount Hope Cemetery
Wednesday June 3rd, 2026
Come join us for a 90-minute guided walking tour of Rochester’s historic Mount Hope Cemetery. With a permanent population of over 350,000, the cemetery has hundreds of thousands of gravestones with stories to tell, symbols to study, and designs to captivate. In the cemetery you will find monuments in granite, marble, limestone, sandstone, zinc, ceramic clay, and bronze fashioned into Greek temples, soaring Egyptian obelisks, ornately carved steles and columns, winged angels, bas relief portraits, stone figures in flowing robes, flora and fauna of exquisite detail in the hardest of granite. This tour will include stops at some of the most prominent names in Rochester’s history along with some local engineers whose names you may recognize.
The physical characteristics of the 196 acres of cemetery grounds are geologically divided into two regions. The northernmost region has undulating topography typical of a glacial moraine. The kames, eskers, and kettles were formed during the retreat of the last glacier some 10,000 years ago. The southern region has more uniform topography left behind by glacial Lake Dana.
Bus transportation will be provided for this tour from RIT to the cemetery and back. Exact pick up/drop off location to follow.

Upper Gorge Rim Trail and Pont De Rennes Bridge
Thursday June 4th, 2026
As we walk from the newly constructed Upper Gorge Rim Trail that overlooks High Falls to the recently rehabbed Pont de Rennes Bridge, we will learn about the construction of the trail along with a little history and future plans for the area to be converted into a State Park. The wrought iron Pont De Rennes Bridge, named after Rochester’s Sister City; Rennes, France, spans the Genesee River Gorge and is now only a pedestrian bridge but used to carry vehicles prior to 1982.
At the conclusion of the gorge trail tour, we will walk across the parking lot to the Genesee Brew House, one of the largest and oldest continually operating breweries in the country. Here you can visit the gift shop, sample some of their popular brews, and take a trip up to the roof for a great view of the surrounding area.
Bus transportation will be provided for this tour from RIT to the gorge trail and back. Exact pick up/drop off location to follow.
