Section 5 Transportation Professional of the Year


Section 5 is proud to nominate Christopher Gaul, as our candidate for Statewide Transportation Professional of the year.

Christopher obtained an associate degree in Drafting and Design from Niagara County Community College in 1979. He then graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology where in 1983 he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.  He began his career at NYSDOT in 1981 and worked as a TCI over four seasons before being hired by Parson Transportation in 1985.

While at Parsons he was assigned to projects of various sizes and had the experience of working in several offices including Buffalo, Detroit, Chicago, and Montreal.  He’s held various design, construction, and management positions throughout his career. 

He has over nine years of construction inspection experience; including bridge, local road, and interstate highway construction projects. Christopher has been responsible for inspecting all phases of highway construction, bridges, landscaping, and utility improvements.

He has managed or lead efforts on various design projects including: the Robert Moses Parkway Removal Project, the Peace Bridge Gateway Project, the I-690 Access Improvements Project (Syracuse), the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge U.S. Plaza reconstruction project, and as a Project Engineer on the US 219 Extension to I-86 Project. 

Christopher has been active in the community.  He has served as Deacon twice at St. Peters United Church of Christ (West Seneca); acted as the superintendent of building and grounds for two years participating in numerous renovations and grounds projects, including a complete replacement of the parsonage’s bathroom over a three-day weekend.

Christopher has served on the Ontario Outing Park Association board for over 20 years, including as President numerous times.  He has planned and managed multiple capital improvement project for the Association.

He has served on the Tri-Town Aquatic Club board for several years; Assisted with the planning and construction of a community playground in the Iroquois school district; and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity several times.

Christopher has been an active member in NYSATE Section 5 since 2005.  He’s participated in most of the team building events and budget meetings since then.

Christopher routinely attends the annual statewide NYSATE conference representing Section 5. During his membership he has volunteered with both conferences hosted by Section 5.  He assisted and then chaired the Sponsorship committee during the 66th Conference (2006) and co-chaired the same committee and assisted the Registration Committee during the 77th Conference (2017).

He has been an Executive Board Member since 2009, advising Section 5’s board on consultant memberships, participation trends and assisting with coordinating and managing Section events.
