Griffiss International Airport:

Wednesday, June 5th          8:30am  10:30am

Griffiss International Airport once known as Griffiss Air force base opened in 1942 and hosted many missions including ariel refueling, electronic research, and fighter interceptors. The air force base was closed in 1995 by the Base Realignment and Closure Commission and turned Griffiss into the Airport and business and technology park it is known as today. Griffiss International Airport  has now become one of seven FAA-designated Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Test Sites in the United States and is part of New York’s 50-mile UAS Traffic Management corridor. Coinciding with this, the airport has brought in the development  of what is known as the ”Sky Dome” which has developed into the largest (known), indoor/outdoor instrumented UAS cyber physical experimentation environment in the country.  This supports year-round development and test of advanced UAS technologies including Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum-dependent, mobile, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), and especially autonomous swarms.  Register and take a tour to learn more!

Fort Stanwix:

Thursday, June 6th  1:00pm - 4:00pm

For thousands of years the ancient trail that connects the Mohawk River and Wood Creek served as a vital link for people traveling between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Ontario. Travelers used this well-worn route through Oneida Indian territory. When Europeans arrived, they called this trail the Oneida Carrying Place and inaugurated a significant period in American history--a period when nations fought for control of not only the Oneida Carrying Place, but the Mohawk Valley, the homelands of the Six Nations Confederacy, and the rich resources of North America as well. In this struggle Fort Stanwix would play a vital role.

Fort Stanwix appears much as it did during the Revolutionary War. The City of Rome and the National Park Service partnered to rebuild a faithful replica of the original fort in 1976, using many original plans and documents.

This outing begins with a one hour guided tour followed by one hour to explore the fort, the grounds, and visitor center.
